My Background

I have a long history of being involved in therapeutic work, starting in the 1980s working on a project to provide play therapy to children and people with learning difficulties. Over the years I have studied and qualified in several areas: Remedial Massage, Social Work, Integrative Counselling, Education, and 2 professional qualifications in Neurofeedback, as well as ongoing training.

Looking back, I can see that my focus has always been on being able to holistically work with the whole person...

History

Neurofeedback

I finished my counselling training in 2012 and after working a lot with trauma of all kinds, with both victims and perpetrators and having trained in Thought Field Therapy (TFT)  as well as a range of other techniques that helped me support people better.  I came across Neurofeedback in 2016. After looking at some of the research, I did my initial professional training in Neurofeedback in 2017 and have integrated it into my practice ever since.

To support my ongoing professional development and practice, I have clinical supervision with Dr. Mary Tracy PHD, a recognised leader in the Neurofeedback field. My training and learning in both counselling and neurofeedback is ongoing.

on reflection

Looking back, I can see that my focus has always been on being able to holistically work with the whole person, and to help them resolve problems on as deep a level as possible. Having worked a great deal with various kinds of trauma, I think it is crucial for complex cases to have somatically focused counselling alongside neurofeedback, to help the person be able to make significant improvements.

Over a period of months that Keith worked with my daughter, she became much calmer. Her ability to concentrate improved, her anger diminished and she developed an inner strength that increased her confidence and happiness.

A Real Life Story

My daughter had struggled with various emotional and behavioural problems throughout her childhood and had worked with several psychologists to help her manage anger, anxiety, impulsiveness and attention deficit disorders.

At 17 she was having difficulty in dealing with school workloads, friendships and family relationships. Although a pleasant girl with a loving family, she was emotionally reactive, angry, and displayed obsessive behaviour that she was unable to control and which worsened her anxiety and feelings of stress. She couldn’t concentrate on her studies, despite wanting to achieve good grades, and could not moderate her emotional response in interactions with others.

She began Neurofeedback therapy with Keith. He conducted a thorough assessment, exploring her perspective as well as that of those close to her. He explained in detail the nature of the therapy and what might be achieved. From the outset she was reassured that her problems were not the result of a fundamental flaw, but rather an inevitable consequence of her having to cope with imbalances in her brain activity that other people did not experience. Immediately she felt relief that there could be an explanation and an understanding of her problems without judgement.

Over a period of months Keith worked with my daughter, employing a variety of therapies but focussing on training her brain activity. She became much calmer over time, and displayed a greater ability to deal reasonably with scenarios that previously would have caused her to be angry and stressed. Her ability to concentrate improved, her anger diminished and she developed an inner strength that increased her confidence and happiness.

She looked forward to her sessions with Keith and periodic progress reviews pointed to significant improvements. The therapy did not become a crutch that she could not live without, rather it encouraged her to have the confidence that the root cause of her problems had been dealt with. Beyond simply dealing with the symptoms of the imbalances in her brain, it actually addressed and altered them, so that she no longer felt the frustration she’d previously experienced.

At 18 she now feels happy and balanced, with less insecurity, more confidence and with a focussed productive approach to life. I have no doubt that the neurofeedback sessions with Keith brought about this transformation and resolved issues for her that had previously caused her significant suffering in her life.
